Colors of their lives

I am proud of my fellow IDS colleagues to have done this nice projects on capturing the stories and lives of children all over the world- while doing our field research!

The exhibition took place in Utrecht, which I obviously can not attend, but there's some pieces I think worth expecting. Children view the world totally different then adults, although I sometimes like to think of myself as a non-grown-ups, but the reality proceeds. Sometimes I really wonder what's the color of... my life.

May be I should draw :)
I particularly like this one by a child from Guatemala, you can particularly see they have value school and nature very much in the lives. Escuela means School in Spanish, the researcher wrote:

Guatemala's policy on education looks perfect on paper. Nowadays, the government acknowledges the importance of bilingual intercultural education, needs of Guatemala's large, indigenous population. Unfortunately, in practice most teachers are not qualified or interested to partecipate in this bilingual program. Not all teachers speak the traditional Mayan language and are therefore not able to teach in this language. Additionally, globalization influences the teacher's opinion about preservation of the culture negatively.

Culture needs to be preserved, and language is the preservative.
